SAFE SLEEPING

Infants are not able to control their own sleeping environment – they are reliant on adults to help keep them safe.

The number of babies dying suddenly and unexpectedly has reduced dramatically in Australia. Research suggests that to a large extent, this is due to parents placing their babies to sleep on their back, rather than on their side or tummy.

Despite this dramatic decrease, the current trend both in Australia and overseas shows an increase in deaths associated with babies in unsafe sleeping environments – these are commonly termed ‘fatal sleeping accidents’.

Baby Slings and Carriers

Did you know that there are currently no Australian Standards for the manufacture of baby slings or carriers sold in Australia? While these products offer a comfortable way to carry your child, they can be dangerous if not used correctly or the wrong size or type are used.
