National Kidsafe Day
On Tuesday the 27th October, we celebrated National Kidsafe Day and the 45th birthday of the Australian standard for child restraints.
Since the introduction of the standard in 1970, the rate of child fatalities from motor vehicle accidents has halved and serious injuries have been reduced by two thirds.
To celebrate, we held a number of competitions on the Kidsafe Australia Facebook page, including giveaways of child restraints from our friends at InfaSecure and Britax!
To find out more about how to keep your child safe in the car, please visit http://www.kidsafevic.com.au/road-safety/child-restraints. Also keep an eye out on our Facebook page for more competitions and giveaways!
Kidsafe Launches Find A Fitter
Kidsafe Victoria has launched a new online child restraint fitting station database- a one stop shop for parents and carers looking for a child restraint fitter in their area.
While child restraints are extremely important in keeping children safe in cars, evidence suggests that up to 70% of child restraints are fitted incorrectly. If a restraint is fitted or used incorrectly, it can increase the risk of injury for a child by up to 7 times in a crash.
To increase the number of children who are being transported safely, Kidsafe Victoria has launched www.findafitter.com.au to help parents and carers easily find a qualified child restraint fitter near them. Website users can simply enter their postcode and suburb and a list of child restraint fitters in their area will be displayed.
In order to be included on the listing, the fitters must adhere to a strict set of criteria created by Kidsafe Victoria, to ensure that parents and carers are receiving the best possible service.
